How To Use FirmaFlex
  USES FOR FIRMAFLEX

FirmaFlex is great for cornices, arches, and wall-hung headboards. It is not recommended for use as a mounting board alone, unless it is supported with a face board.

  SQUARING

Prior to using FirmaFlex or any building material, it is a good idea to check the squareness of the sheet. Square with a T-square if needed.

  CUTTING: STRAIGHT CUTS

NOTE: TABLE SAW NOT RECOMMENDED.

A rotary cutter is recommended for making straight cuts in FirmaFlex. You will need a large 65mm blade to cut all the way through the material. Use a straight edge and a cutting mat, and simply push the rotary cutter through FirmaFlex.

  CUTTING: INTRICATE CUTS

To make intricate cuts with FirmaFlex, draw off your design, then cut with a jigsaw. Use blades designed for wood, not metal, that are for fine finish cutting (small teeth)

  GLUING

Recommended glues for FirmaFlex are thick, tacky glues or hot glue. Wood glue, thin glues, or solvent-based glues are not recommended.

  ASSEMBLY TECHNIQUES

FirmaFlex performs beautifully when screwed or nailed together. Can be pre-drilled if desired. Pneumatic tools work well. When building a long piece, reinforce as needed.

  COVERING & STAPLING

FirmaFlex will accept iron-on self-bonding fabrics. Spray adhesives may be used. Cover with batting or foam and staple into place, using staple length appropriate to the project. Face fabric can be easily stapled into FirmaFlex.

  SPLICING

FirmaFlex is incredibly easy to splice, and can be arched and shaped well even after splicing. Butt two edges together, apply a bead of hot glue between them, place a row of staples along the seam, flip the piece over and place another row of staples on the seam.

  HINGING

FirmaFlex is self-hinging! No more hardware needed when building bay window boards. Using a rotary cutter, cut part way through the material where a hinge is desired, and fold FirmaFlex into itself. It’s never been so easy to fold and transport a large piece.

  SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Wear safety goggles when using saws with FirmaFlex.

When using rotary cutter, always push the blade AWAY from you, and keep hands out of the path of the blade.

Cut only one piece of FirmaFlex at a time. Do not stack to cut. Saws may build up excessive heat.
